Creating co-investment platforms to reach scale

GCF’s role as a hub of the climate finance architecture requires it to take a leading role in developing innovations and solutions that address climate action. One of the solutions is to spearhead the creation of co-investment platforms in response to IPCC’s call for systems transitions to limit the global warming to 1.5℃ and adapt to climate change. The need for scaling up and accelerating climate investment and innovation is ever-more critical to avert further climate catastrophes. This event will highlight some key co-investment platforms and initiatives being developed that will accelerate climate action.

Land restoration: a nature-based solution for resilience in times of uncertainty

Land restoration is critical for responding to multiple global crises, including biodiversity loss and climate change. However, land restoration cannot be scaled up quickly enough to significantly reduce peak global temperatures and is ultimately limited by existing land uses. While restoring ecosystems is crucial for planetary health, it is no substitute for preventing emissions from fossil fuels. Cost-effective and flexible restoration pathways can be tailored to just about any context and scale if there is political will, inclusive governance, and sustained finance.
